Notes: The Beatles filmed a promotional film for their song "A Day in The Life" at Abbey Road Studios during the recording of
orchestral overdubs. It was all done with a party atmosphere with many friends and relatives present.
While doing some research I came upon an article which detailed a proposed 1967 TV special for "Sgt Peppers" which is why the
"A Day in The Life" session was actually filmed. However this proposed TV special failed to be made when The Beatles decided to go ahead with their own "Magical Mystery Tour" film.

This is what the article had to say about the filming:
Fashion photographer Vic Singh, who had worked with Beatle George Harrison's wife Pattie Boyd during the early modelling days
received a call from the Beatle's office, asking him to film the group just three days before the recording of the orchestra on
"A Day in The Life".Singh met with Beatle Paul McCartney at his St. John's Wood home the next day to discuss the
filming.Singh proposed putting 16mm cameras all over the studio so the Beatles and all their invited guests could simply pick
one up and shoot one another at will.McCartney loved the idea and gave Singh the go-ahead to film the session.
On February 10th, 1967, Singh and Keith Green arrived during the orchestral recording sessions for the song "A Day in The
Life".The filming was directed by NEMS Enterprises' "Tony Bramwell". Plans for the special came to an end when The Beatles
decided to produce a brand-new project, which turned out to be their own film Magical Mystery Tour.

Although production of the proposed TV special was cancelled, the "A Day in The Life" footage was edited down along with some
stock footage into a finished promo in early 1967.This promo is not known to have been used as a promotional video for "A Day
in The Life" in any TV broadcast during 1967 (without doubt because the song was banned by the BBC).According to Tony
Bramwell, the promotional video was actually shown at a few sales conventions in the 1960s but then forgotten about. Some brief
colour outtake footage from the filming did however receive a brief public airing in the little seen 1968 concert film Watch
Out For Your Ears as cutaway footage during Joe Cocker's performance of "With a Little Help From My Friends".Then in 1969
the unseen 1967 edit was dusted off for use in a special edition of the BBC2 program Late Night Line-Up promoting The Beatles
new album Abbey Road on September 19, 1969.However, the audio was replaced with the Abbey Road track, "Come Together".
Then on Feb 11, 1983 the UK pop music program "The Tube" broadcast the Late Night Line-Up version of "A Day in The Life" with
"Come Together" as the audio. As far as we know this "Tube" airing was never bootlegged but did float around in collectors circles.

A re-edited & fully restored pristine copy of the video was released on The Beatles "1+" DVD & Bluray in 2015.
Further outtakes have appeared on bootleg DVD in 2015 and collectors now have around 23:40 minutes of pristine outtakes that
have not been bootlegged. In June 2024 a fan (Adam Bound) posted on Youtube all of the known footage from the filming of the
"A Day in The Life" recording session. The sources he used are: The Long and Winding Road HMC, Rare Unseen & Unheard HMC, and the
Sgt. Pepper Commemorative Issue) HMC,the Now and Then mini-documentary as well as the Joe Cocker promo for With a Little
Help From My Friends. The complete footage remains in the hands of collectors.
