Notes: On this day in May 1966, The Beatles went to EMI`s Abbey Road Studios and filmed a number of promo videos for "Paperback
Writer" and "Rain" - their new single. The director for all of the filming was Michael Lindsay-Hogg. These promos would be for
broadcast in both America and Europe. All promos were filmed on video tape. They began with the filming of two colour promos
(one for each song) that were exclusively for broadcast in America on "The Ed Sullivan Show". They also taped a special
introduction for them as well. At 10am a camera rehearsal took place then they filmed a mimed performance of "Rain" after which
they filmed a mimed performance of "Paperback Writer" from 1:10 - 2:00pm.Both of these colour "indoor" promos were broadcast on
June 5, 1966 and to our knowledge were never screened again on television until the 1990`s.The original edits of this colour
“indoor” promo for "Paperback Writer" was beautifully restored and re-mastered for inclusion on the "1+" Blu-ray in November
2015 but the colour "indoor" promo for "Rain" wasn`t included.

They began with the filming of two colour promos (one for each song) that were exclusively for broadcast in America on "The Ed Sullivan Show". They also taped a special introduction as well. At 10am a camera rehearsal took place then the first colour performance of "Rain" was filmed, after which The Beatles watched a playback to see the results. Both of these colour "indoor" promos were broadcast on June 5, 1966 and to our knowledge were never screened again on television until the 1990’s. For some unknown reason this promo for "Rain" was not included on the Beatles "1+" DVD/Blu-ray release with the best version at the moment available on HMC`s 2016 release "The Ultimate Intertels Plus".
