The Chiswick House Promos

On 20 May 1966 The Beatles and the Intertel film crew went to Chiswick House, an 18th century house and gardens in West London,
to shoot one more promo film each for "Paperback Writer" and "Rain". Both were shot on 35mm colour film. The film for
"Paperback Writer" was more or less a straightforward performance with most of the film devoted to The Beatles miming in the
statue garden.The film for "Rain" followed The Beatles wandering about the grounds of Chiswick House as well as footage of
children at play around one of the house`s cedar trees, making that promo slightly more conceptual than a straight mimed
performance.Both films were mimed performances and despite being filmed in colour were aired in black and white on "Top of The
Pops", as the BBC had yet to make the shift to colour. The Chiswick promo film for "Paperback Writer" debuted on 2 June 1966 on
the show, while the Chiswick promo film for "Rain" debuted on 9 June 1966 on the same TV show.In 1996 the "Paperback Writer"
promo was remastered and re-edited using previously unseen outtakes then distributed around the World to promote "The Beatles
Anthology 3" CD.In 2003 the "Rain" promo was remastered and re-edited using previously unseen outtakes then distributed around
the World to promote "The Beatles Anthology" DVD.New edits of both "Paperback Writer" & "Rain" were restored and re-mastered for inclusion on the "1+" Blu-ray in November 2015.

Paperback Writer (Chiswick House, Colour, w/slate) Broadcast in black and white on "Top of The Pops" on June 2 and also June 23, 1966.
This b/w version was initially in collectors circles on VHS video and then bootlegged in the 1980`s as "Private Reel" reportedly taken from Ringo`s own collection.

Rain (Chiswick House, Colour, w/slate)
Broadcast in black and white on "Top of The Pops" on June 9, 1966.
This b/w version was initially available only in collectors circles on VHS video and eventually then bootlegged (still on VHS) in the 1980`s as "Private Reel" reportedly taken from Ringo`s own collection.

Variation:
Rain (new edit containing outtakes from Chiswick House & the Abbey Rd indoor b/w versions)
Broadcast in "The Beatles Anthology" TV special in Nov 1995 and later issued on DVD.
