Essential TV and Film Appearances of George Harrison 1986 - 2000

1986

Hand Made in Hong Kong..The Making of Shanghai Surprise (Hong Kong; Macau; London, England, Feb 3-6; Late Feb, March 6 & July 1986)

To promote Handmade Films latest release "Shanghai Surprise", George hired Tyne Tees Television to put together a TV special entitled
"Handmade in Hong Kong". The film, starring husband and wife duo Madonna & Sean Penn, was shot in England as well as Hong Kong, Macau and
Portugal. The special is narrated by Paula Yates. George visited the set in Hong Kong in early Feb and was interviewed there by Paula
Yates for the documentary. Other footage, shot back in England, includes bits of the infamous George and Madonna press conference from
early March and footage of George recording the songs "Shanghai Surprise" (with Vicki Brown) & "Someplace Else" plus an interview at
his Friar Park studio in July as well as George filming his cameo as a nightclub singer that was shot in late Feb at Shepperton Studios.



Heartbeat `86 (Birmingham, England, March 15 1986)

George travelled up to the NEC in Birmingham for the charity concert "Heartbeat `86" and took the stage for the encore rendition of "Johnny B. Goode".



Today - Interview (London, England, Early April 1986)

Journalist Rona Elliot travelled to England to interview George for the "Today" show on NBC in America. The interview mainly centred around George`s Handmade films.



Terry Willesee Tonight - Interview (Adelaide, Australia, Oct 25 1986)

Whilst in Adelaide for the Australian grand prix, George gave a rare TV studio interview to the Australian TV show "Terry Willesee
Tonight" to promote the recently released "Shanghai Surprise" film. This rather jovial interview was broadcast in two parts on Oct 27 & 28.
A rarely seen happy and funny George interview.



It Was Twenty Years Ago Today Raw Footage - Interview (London, England, Dec 1986)

Just over 40 minutes of raw interview footage from Granada TV`s 20th anniversary TV special "It Was Twenty Years Ago Today". Only in collectors hands so far.



1987

The Prince`s Trust Rock Gala (London, England, June 5-6 1987)

Not to be outdone by Paul`s appearance at the 1986 Prince`s Trust Concert, George & Ringo took to the stage at two shows in June 1987.
Rehearsals and a photo shoot occurred on the first day (Some of which is available) with the first concert held that night. A second
concert was held the following night. An edited TV special featuring footage from both concerts was aired a couple of weeks later in England.
George performed excellent versions of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Here Comes The Sun".



WEA Promo Interview Raw Footage - Interview (Los Angeles, USA, Sept 16 1987)

George was interviewed by WEA Records to begin his most intense period of promotion ever. This interview was to promote his new album
"Cloud Nine" and the single "Got My Mind Set on You". The promotional interview was sent all around the World and was used on many TV
shows. The complete raw footage of the interview (almost 1 hour) is available.

Op Reis - Interview (London, England, Oct 21 1987)

An interview with George was shot in the beautiful glass ballroom at Shepperton Studios. This one was for the Dutch TV show "Op Reis"
("TV Show"). One interesting moment in the interview was when George proclaimed he was running late to have dinner with Paul & Ringo!



1988

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (New York, USA, Jan 20 1988)

George and Ringo both attended the 1988 "Rock `n` Roll Hall of Fame" ceremony to accept The Beatles induction into the hall of fame
(Mick Jagger inducted them). Also present, representing John was Yoko, Julian & Sean. Paul declined to attend citing business differences.



Ray Martin at Midday - Interview (Los Angeles, USA, Feb 12 1988)

George gave a live via satellite interview to the Australian TV show "Ray Martin at Midday". Quite an interesting interview as George
gives an explanation as to why Paul didn`t attend the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Awards.



Aspel - Interview (London, England, March 3 1988)

George and Ringo appeared together for an unique interview on the British talk show "Aspel". Very essential.



Much Music - Special Live Presentation - Interview (Toronto, Canada, March 29 1988)

Following a press conference George was driven to the City TV studios of "Much Music" in Toronto where the cameras rolled for a half hour
live presentation that included a sit down interview with journalist Christopher Ward.



The Movie Life of George - Interview (London, England, Oct 1 1988)

Granada Television put together a one hour documentary about George Harrison and Handmade Films entitled, in the best Monty Python
tradition, "The Movie Life of George".The highlight of the doco was footage of George jamming with Carl Perkins at a special anniversary
dinner for Handmade Films held at Shepperton Film Studios in London on Oct 1, 1988.



MTV Raw Footage - Interview (New York, USA, Oct 18 1988)

Also in the hands of collectors is the raw footage of George`s New York "MTV" interview for the Traveling Wilburys along with
a brief outtake from Tom, Jeff & Roy`s group interview shot in L.A.



MTV Raw Footage - Interview (Los Angeles, USA, Dec 16-17 1988)

Nearly 25 minutes of raw footage from the "MTV" "End of The Line" interview has crept into the hands of collectors.



1989

Off The Wall - Interview (London, England, July 25 1989)

George was interviewed at the premiere of his latest Handmade movie "How To Get Ahead in Advertising" by UK Super Channel program "Off The Wall".



1990

Colour Home Movie - Camp Wilbury (Los Angeles, USA, May 3-5 1990)

The Traveling Wilburys regrouped in Los Angeles in May to record their second album. Jim Keltner and his wife were there and shot a lot of
home movie footage which eventually leaked out into the hands of collectors. The footage goes under the title of "Camp Wilbury".



Colour Home Movie - George & Jim Go Shopping (Los Angeles, USA, May 5 1990)

During the Wilburys Vol 3 sessions George and Jim Keltner went out shopping for a video camera. While they were inside the shop looking
around an enterprising sales assistant set up a home video camera and started filming them.
The interesting footage was cut short after half an hour when George spotted them filming.



Wogan - Interview (London, England, June 20 1990)

George and Olivia had recently put together a various artists charity album to help the "Romanian Angel Appeal".
So today they both appeared on the BBC TV show "Wogan" to promote it.



The New Music - Interview (Los Angeles, USA, Oct 9 1990)

The Wilburys (minus Bob) began promoting their "Volume 3" album with an interview, at the Warner Brothers offices in Los Angeles, for the
Canadian music show "The New Music".This interview which is fairly crazy and rather hilarious was also used by Warner Brothers as an EPK for the album.

The Wilburys (minus Bob) did an interview for NBC`s "Today" show with journalist Rona Elliot.



1991

Mr Roadrunner - Performance (London, England, Circa June 1991)

George performed the obscure song "Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea" along with a makeshift band that contained Ray Cooper, Jools
Holland and Joe Brown. This was filmed for the Jools Holland TV special "Mr Roadrunner" that was shown a year later on Channel 4 in England.



Blue Sky ("Subarashiki Nakama") - Interview (London, England, Nov 12 1991)

George & Eric Clapton started rehearsing for their upcoming Japan tour at Bray Studios outside London. The Japanese network TBS sent over
a film crew who filmed them rehearsing as well as interviewing them for exclusive broadcast in Japan on the program "Blue Sky".



Super Time - Interview (Osaka, Japan, Dec 12 1991)

George gave an interview to Fuji TV`s "Super Time" program while on tour in Japan.
It also included footage of their arrival at Tokyo airport and footage from one of their concerts.

1992

Gary Wright "First Signs of Life" EPK (Los Angeles, USA, Circa Early 1992)

George contributed vocals to Gary Wright`s song "Don`t Try To Own Me" which was recorded at Gary`s home studio in Los Angeles.
George was filmed recording his vocals and this footage was used in an EPK for the album "First Signs of Life".

In Concert `92 - Interview (London, England, Late June 1992)

"In Concert `92" did an interview with George to promote his "Live in Japan" album. They even included some pro shot footage from one of his Japanese concerts.

George and many others rehearse for the "Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert" at Sir Studios in New York. Home movie footage was shot and is available.

Black and White Home Movie - Platinum Weird's "This Guitar" Recording Session (London, England, Circa Nov 1992)

Dave Stewart produced a recording of George`s song "This Guitar" in late 1992 in London. The song ended up finally being released in 2006
under the pseudonym name of "Platinum Weird".The recording session features George, Dave Stewart, Bob Geldof and Chucho Marchen
(a jazz session bass player). A home video was filmed in black and white of one session in a very dark studio and this footage is available on bootleg DVD.



The Billboard Music Awards 1992 (Los Angeles, USA, Dec 9 1992)

George was given a Billboard Music Award. It was presented to to him by his good mate, Tom Petty.



1993

Curves, Contours and Bodyhorns - Interview (Henley-on-Thames, England, Late Sept 1993)

George was interviewed for a TV special called "Curves, Contours and Bodyhorns" which was all about the history of Fender guitars.



Wide World of Sports - Interview (Adelaide, Australia, Nov 6 1993)

George was interviewed live on the Australian sports program "Wide World of Sports" during practice at the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide.



1994

TV3 Sports - Interview (Adelaide, Austrlia, Nov 11 1994)

New Zealand`s TV3 sports caught up with George during the Adelaide grand prix practice session as he wandered around the pits.
This lovely quality raw footage is available.



1995

Colour Home Movies - Recording Real Love & Now & Then (Sussex, England, Jan 30-Feb 3 1995)

The Threetles re-grouped in early 1995 to record the second reunion single "Real Love" and part of "Now and Then" at Paul`s Sussex studio.
About a minute of home movie footage taken by all three Fabs was used in the official promo video of "Real Love". Then in 2023 they
had completed the third "reunion" song - "Now and Then". A "making of" 12 minute mini-doc was released on the internet to promote the
last ever Beatles single. This featured further outtake footage. An official promo video was also put togetherand this contained even more
footage from recording session. A fan then combined all the "Real Love" and "Now and Then" session film which now came to a total of 4:52 mins worth of footage.



Today Tonight - Interview (Adelaide, Australia, Nov 13 1995)

George was interviewed exclusively by Australian Current Affairs program "Today Tonight" the day after the Adelaide Grand Prix at the Hilton Hotel.



1996

Gente Que Brilha (Henley-on-Thames, England, Oct 1996)

George said a few words and even sung a tribute song for him to the tune of "Here Comes The Sun" for this Brazilian TV special tribute to his good friend and F1 legend Emerson Fittapaldi.



1997

Channel 9 News Raw Footage - Interview (Melbourne, Australia, March 9 1997)

George was filmed by Channel 9 News at the Australian Grand Prix and the after race party along with Dhani in Melbourne.
The fascinating raw footage has now became available.



Ying & Yang - Interview & Performance (Los Angeles, USA, May 14 1997)

George & Ravi did a VH-1 TV special called "Ying & Yang" to promote Ravi`s "Chants of India" album that George produced. After George died
VH-1 re-broadcast a specially edited longer version of the special (in December 2001) with previously unseen outtakes including George
performing "All Things Must Pass" and the then unreleased "Any Road" and Dylan`s "You Belong To Me".



CBS This Morning - Interview (New York, USA, May 17 1997)

George & Ravi started an unexpected promotional campaign for Ravi`s album "Chants of India".
They began with a series of interviews for American TV shows. This one was for "CBS This Morning".



All Things Must Pass - Interview (Paris, France, July 16 1997)

This seems to be a TV special done for the "Canal Jimmy" Satellite TV Channel. It features an exclusive interview done in Paris to promote Ravi`s album "Chants of India".



1998 WBBU Channel 7 News (Jackson, Tennessee, USA, Jan 23 1998)

George attended Carl Perkins funeral and performed a song. ABC`s Channel 7 News did a live cross to the chapel service and caught George`s
performance albeit from a camera at the back of the chapel with many heads in the way.



Unknown TV News - Interview (Henley-on-Thames, England, Circa Sept 1998)

George Harrison is interviewed by an unknown TV show inside Friar Park regarding his cancer scare. This previously unseen footage was shown in the doco "Living in The Material World".



1999

Yellow Submarine EPK - Interview (London, England, July-August 1999)

George was interviewed for an EPK issued to promote the remastered "Yellow Submarine" movie on DVD.



2000

Colour Home Movie - George & Olivia at The Melbourne Grand Prix (Melbourne, Australia, March 12 2000)

George & Olivia attended the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix, the last time he ever visited Australia. One of the best Oberkrainer bands
from Austria, "Die Mooskirchner", toured Australia in March 2000. During their tour Die Mooskirchner performed at the McLaren Mercedes
paddock during race day in Melbourne, with George & Olivia enjoying the music. This footage was uploaded onto Youtube in Dec 2022.



ITV Sport - George at Melbourne Grand Prix - Interview (Melbourne, Australia, March 12th 2000)

George & Olivia attended the 2000 Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix, the last time he ever visited Australia. "ITV Sport" caught up with
George for a brief interview who was actually on the starting grid just before the main race.



All Things Must Pass EPK - Interview (Henley-on-Thames, England, Circa Nov 2000)

George is interviewed at Friar Park by Jools Holland and Dave Stewart for an EPK issued to promote his remastered "All Things Must Pass" album on CD.
