Essential TV and Film Appearances of George Harrison 1968 - 1985

1968

British Pathe - Recording "Wonderwall" in Bombay (Bombay, India, Jan 10 1968)

Lovely colour footage with sound of George recording the soundtrack to "Wonderwall" as well as the basic track for "The Inner Light" at
EMI studios in Bombay, India. This footage was uploaded onto the "British Pathe" website in 2019 and is longer than any previous versions.



1969

Beat `70 - Delaney, Bonnie & Friends Concert (Copenhagen, Denmark, Dec 10 1969)

This is a Dutch TV broadcast of a Delaney & Bonnie & Friends concert in Copenhagen that includes George throughout on guitar.



British Movietone - Unicef London Concert (London, England, Dec 15 1969)

John & Yoko (and George) appeared at the UNICEF concert in London. British Movietime newsreels filmed over 4 minutes of silent black and
white footage of this event which saw John and George performing together live in concert for the very last time.
However only 1:21 mins of the newsreel actually shows the footage of John, George & Yoko.



1970

Fact or Fantasy? - Interview (London, England, April 10 1970)

George, unexpectedly, gave an interview to the BBC Religious TV series "Fact or Fantasy". Recently the complete 19 minute program which
includes all of the George interview in excellent colour has turned up in collectors hands and is currently unbootlegged.



1971

ABC News Raw Footage - Concert For Bangladesh Press Conference (New York City, July 27 1971)

In late July George and Ravi Shankar held a press conference to officially announce the Bangladesh concerts.
Almost 12 minutes of good quality colour raw footage from the ABC News cameras are in the hands of collectors.



The Concert For Bangladesh (New York City, Aug 1 1971)

Due to a war and a refugee crisis, Ravi Shankar asked George Harrison if there was any way possible they could raise money to help these people.
George put on a benefit concert to help the Bangladesh refuggee crisis. "The Concert for Bangladesh" (actually two
performances) was held at Madison Square Garden on August 1st.Both concerts were filmed (as were rehearsals) and were turned into a
feature length film that premiered in early 1972. The film was remastered and released on DVD with some lovely bonus features including a rehearsal of "If Not For You".



The Dick Cavett Show - Interview (New York, USA, Nov 23 1971)

To help promote the upcoming film of "The Concert For Banglasesh" and it`s soundtrack album, George and Ravi Shankar appeared on two New
York based TV talk shows.His first appearance was on "The Dick Cavett Show". George also brought along a special guest on each show.
Tonight his guest was Gary Wright & Wonderwheel who performed a song with George guesting on slide guitar.
This complete episode was officially issued on DVD in August 2005.



The David Frost Show - Interview (New York, USA, Nov 24 1971)

George`s second and final TV appearance to promote the Bangladesh album & film was on "The David Frost Show" again with Ravi Shankar and
George`s guest this time was David Bromberg who performed the song "The Hold-Up" which he had actually written with George back in
November 1970. Unfortunately it seems this episode no longer exists in the archives but luckily a fan filmed a portion of the show
direct off a TV screen and this 3 minutes of footage is available on bootleg DVD but in fairly bad black and white quality.
The footage consists of a scene where George tries to remember how to play the sitar.



1972

Various Colour Home Movies (London, UK, June-Oct 1972)

George filmed some nice home movies during 1972, two of which showed up in his film documentary "Living in The Material World" in 2011.
The first was of George peaking out from behind some flowers in his garden and the second was footage of George watching his brand new
recording studio arriving at Friar Park in October. The other home movie footage was taken in the summer of 1972 by one of the Hare
Krishna members showing George and Prabhupada walking around the grounds of Bhaktivedanta Manor in Aldenham that George had recently
purchased and donated to the religious organisation.



1973 Various Colour Home Movies (London, UK, Feb, April & Nov 1973)

George filmed some more nice home movies during 1972, which once again showed up in his film documentary "Living in The Material World" in
2011 and his "Apple Years" box set in 2014. The first bit of footage was filmed during George's visit to India in Feb. The next lot of
footage was taken in Los Angeles while he and Ringo were being photographed for the front cover artwork for his George's album "Living
in The Material World" in April. The last bit of footage was filmed at his studio in Friar Park during an early recording session for his "Dark Horse" album in November 1973.



1974

Official 1974 US/Canadian Tour (Various, mainly Toronto, Canada & New York, USA, Nov/Dec 1974)

George`s US/Canadian tour was filmed for a potential feature film and/or TV special. Due to George`s voice being rather hideous
throughout, the potential film was shelved and had remained unseen until some lovely quality footage was shown in the 2011 documentary "Living in The Material World".



Colour Home Movie - Live in Detroit, Michigan (Detroit, USA, Dec 4 1974)

Some amazing footage of George`s concert in Detroit was shared on youtube last year.



Dispute & Violence (Ravi Shankar) (Toronto, Canada, Dec 6 1974)

George filmed at least 3 of his concerts during his US/Canada 1974 tour and as a bonus feature on the 2012 documentary "Living in The
Material World" they included a part of Ravi`s set that included George playing electric guitar on Ravi's tune "Dispute and Violence".
This footage comes from the Toronto concert on Dec 6, 1974.

Two minutes worth of beautiful footage from the Toronto evening concert was shown in the 2012 documentary "Living in The Material World".



CBS New Raw Footage - Visiting The White House, Washington, USA, Dec 13 1974)

Because of a invitation by President Ford`s son, Jack, George and members of his band visited the White House and met with President
Gerald Ford. There was a press gathering outside before the official meeting inside with numerous news crews on hand. 8 minutes of raw
footage from CBS cameras have found their way onto DVD in decent quality.



Beatles Dissolution Papers Signing (Plaza Hotel, New York, Dec 19 1974)

Not only did George`s film crew shoot concert footage they were also on hand when George and Paul and their army of lawyers met at the
Plaza Hotel in New York to sign the Beatles dissolution papers.This previously unknown footage is revelatory in The Beatles history and we
can be thankful George had the foresight to film this momentous occasion.



1975

Ravi Shankar`s Music Festival From India With George Harrison & Don Ellis (Los Angeles, USA, Mid-Late Oct 1975)

After trying to get the "Ravi Shankar`s Music Festival From India" concert film distributed for the past year without any success an offer
came from the Los Angeles TV station KCET to screen some segments from the film with the proviso that George do a personal interview
that would be broadcast as well. George agreed and in October 1975 George flew to Los Angeles and filmed an interview with Jazz
musician Don Ellis. The interview was broadcast, in colour & with a stereo simulcast on radio along with 3 excerpts from the Ravi concert film.
This TV presentation was broadcast in March 1976.



Christmas With Rutland Weekend Television (London, England, Dec 13 1975)

George appeared as a pirate character on Eric Idle`s Christmas episode of his TV series "Rutland Weekend Television". George appeared in a
few small sketches before taking the stage, as himself, to supposedly perform "My Sweet Lord" but following the opening guitar chords
George breaks into an original Harrison/Idle composition called "The Pirate Song" much to the disgust of the host
and his backing band that includes fellow Rutle Neil Innes.



1976

WABC Channel 7 News - Interview (Los Angeles, USA, Nov 14 1976)

George headed to America in November for a promo tour to promote his new album '33 1/3". Lots of dinners and interviews ensued but there
were only two TV appearances that we are aware of. The first being an interview for the "Channel 7 News" in Los Angeles.



Saturday Night Live (New York, USA, Nov 18 1976)

George appeared with Paul Simon on "Saturday Night Live". He appeared in a funny skit with Paul Simon and Lorne Michaels regarding payment
for SNL`s ongoing offer for the Beatles to reform on their show.Following this his two videos were premiered then George and Paul
Simon performed a couple of their most well known songs - "Here Comes The Sun" and "Homeward Bound".
This episode of SNL has been released on an official DVD.



Granada Reports - Interview (Manchester, England, Nov 28 1976)

Back in England, George did a couple of British TV interviews to promote his new album. The first was for "Granada Reports" up in Manchester.
This interview is available in very good quality.



The Old Grey Whistle Test - Interview (London, England, Nov 30 1976)

Now back in London George was interviewed for "The Old Grey Whistle Test".
This rather lengthy interview was broadcast later that same night and is available in very good quality from a copy from the BBC.



1977

Disco (Munich, Germany, Feb 2 1977)

George's promotions now moved to Germany where he mimed to "This Song" on the popular German pop music TV show "Disco". THis was the first
and last time George ever "performed" on a TV show.This footage is available in excellent quality



Pop Journaal - "George Harrison" (Amsterdam, Holland, Feb 3 1977)

Next stop George's Euro Promo tour was Holland. There he was filmed for a short stand-alone special shown on the Dutch Veronica network TV
show "Pop Journaal". The available copy is in average quality however a pristine copy taken from the TV master is in the hands of collectors.



Les Rendezvous Du Dimanche (Paris, France, Feb 5 1977)

Next on George`s promo tour was France. Here he was interviewed live on the TV show "Les Rendezvous Du Dimanche". A pristine 5 minute
excerpt was uploaded onto Youtube in 2018 and is now on DVD.The complete 10 min interview is available but only in average black and white
quality although collectors have the full interview in average quality colour.



Warner Brothers Records Convention Promo (Friar Park, Henley-on-Thames, England, July 1977)

A bad quality black and white home movie video was made by George for use at the Warner Brothers sales conference in 1977. A copy is available on DVD.



The Rutles - All You Need is Cash (London, England, Aug 2 1977)

"All You Need is Cash" is a spoof film that traces the career of the British group called The Rutles that is obviously based on the career
of The Beatles. The Rutles were played by Eric Idle, John Halesey, Ricky Fataar and Neil Innes. George Harrison himself makes a short
cameo appearance in the film as a grey-haired TV journalist interviewing several people including Michael Palin and Ron Wood. A DVD was release in April 2005.



1978

"Ringo" (Los Angeles, USA, March 9 1978)

George made a brief cameo appearance in Ringo`s 1978 TV special.Good quality copies are available on DVD.



Eric Clapton & His Rolling Hotel (Guildford, England, Dec 7 1978)

George & Elton John joined Eric on stage for an encore of "Further on Up The Road" that is taken from a limited released Eric Clapton
documentary filmed on his late 1978 European tour. Good quality copies are available on DVD although this film has never been officially released on video or DVD.



1979

Fantastico (Brazil, Feb 4 1979)

George, who was in Brazil for the Brazilian Formula One Grand Prix, gave the TV show "Fantastico" an exclusive interview. Good quality copies are on bootleg DVD.



ABC Wild World of Sports - George & Ringo at The Monico Grand Prix (Monte Carlo, Monaco, May 26 1979)

George & Ringo are briefly interviewed together by Jackie Stewart at the Monico Grand Prix. This comes from a home movie filmed off a TV screen in bad colour.



Associated Press - Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy (Donnington Park Race Track, England, June 2 1979)

George seen briefly racing a vintage Grand Prix car on the first day of the two day "Gunnar Nilsson Memorail Race Day".Good quality copies are available on DVD.



Motorsports - Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Trophy - Interview (Donnington Park Race Track, England, June 3 1979)

George was interviewed on the second day of the two day "Gunnar Nilsson Memorial Race Day" along with Jackie Stewart.



Colour Home Movie - Jon Lord`s Cricket Match (Henley-on-Thames, England, Aug 1979)

George participated in a cricket match put on by his friend Jon Lord, a member of the rock band, Deep Purple at an estate in Henley near
George`s home. This rare silent colour home movie was reportedly filmed by Jon Lord`s wife. Also present and seen in the footage is Olivia, Dhani and Eric Idle.



1981

Good Morning America - Interview (London, England (Via Satellite), Oct 16 1981)

George made a rare TV appearance on ABC`s "Good Morning America" to promote his new Handmade film "Time Bandits". The pre-recorded
interview was conducted by GMA`s host, David Hartman via satellite from London.



1982

Good Morning Australia - Interview (Hamilton Island, Queensland, Australia, March 1982)

While holidaying in Australia with his family George agreed to be interviewed for the Australian TV show "Good Morning Australia".
A fascinating and unexpected interview that was broadcast in 5 parts in March 1982.
George was very open and candid hence why this remains one of his best ever interviews.



1983

Film`83 - Interview (Henley, London, England, May 1983)

Whilst some scenes from George`s latest Handmade film "Bullshot" were being filmed in Henley, George consented to an interview for the UK TV show "Film `83".



1984

Fifty Years Adrift - Auckland Press Conference Raw Footage (Auckland, New Zealand, Nov 28 1984)

George & Derek flew to Auckland, New Zealand on Nov 27, 1984. The next day George and Derek Taylor held a literary luncheon at the Hyatt
Hotel in Auckland.A press conference, to promote Derek`s autobiography "Fifty Years Adrift", was held afterwards.
The entire raw footage of this press conference was leaked to collectors in the 90`s.



Fifty Years Adrift - Sydney Press Conference Raw Footage (Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia, Nov 30 1984)

George and Derek flew from Auckland to Sydney, Australia on November 29 and the next day did it all over again with another literary
luncheon followed by a press conference at the iconic Sydney Opera House to promote Derek`s autobiography "Fifty Years Adrift".
The raw footage of the press conference has become available in very good quality.



Terry Willesee Tonight - Interview (Sydney Opera House, Sydney, Australia, Nov 30 1984)

This is the only interview with George & Derek whilst in Australia & NZ. As they were leaving via the Sydney Opera House carpark, a crew
from the nightly current affairs program "Terry Willesee Tonight" cornered the pair as they were heading for their car.
Being good natured they agreed to a brief interview that was broadcast that night.



Colour Home Movie - Deep Purple Sydney Concert (Sydney, Australia, Dec 13 1984)

Unbeknowst to the majority of fans George had stayed on in Sydney following his promotional duties with Derek Taylor. On Dec 13 Deep
Purple gave a concert in Sydney and George was in attendance spending most of the show sitting at the side of the stage. Then to the shock
of everyone when it came time for the band`s final encore they brought out a friend whom they introduced as "Arnold Grove from
Liverpool...New South Wales"! They then proceeded to jam on the old Little Richard rocker "Lucille".
At least two home movies exist of George`s amazing cameo. The first known video was only 30 secs and very bad quality but more recently a
much better quality video (though shot from behind the stage) of the complete performance was uploaded to youtube and has been made available on bootleg DVD.



1985

Newsnight - Interview (London, England, Early Jan 1985)

George was the first to be on television in 1985 with an interview done at his Handmade Films London office for the BBC`s "Newsnight"
show. Primarily this lengthy interview was to promote George`s Handmade Films company and its latest releases.



Carl Perkins & Friends - A Rockabilly Session Raw Footage (London, England, Oct 20-21 1985)

Raw footage from the filming of the TV special "Carl Perkins and Friends" captures George and Ringo posing in a group photo shoot (9 Mins) and also rehearsing for the special (34 mins).



Wide World of Sports - Interview (Adelaide, Australia, Oct 31 1985)

George was interviewed by GP legend Jackie Stewart for the Australian sports program "Wide World of Sports" during practice at the Adelaide GP.
